How to Organize Your Spice Drawer
Junk drawers are prevalent in most of our in-home organizing client’s kitchens with random and often useless items. One of our all-time favorite ways to combat these bottomless pits of junk in kitchen drawers is to convert them to a spice drawer whenever we possibly can.
When we first moved into our current house, I immediately designated this drawer by the stove as a spice drawer and we have loved it ever since. It has been a few years, so I was excited when our friends at The Container Store sent us these new goodies to update the look of our organized spice drawer just in time for the holidays. *All opinions are our own. When organizing your spice drawer, you can either elect to use store-bought spice jars or to go for the uniform look of matching jars. We recommend decanting your spices (transferring them to matching jars) if you tend to buy the same spices over and over, and as long as you don’t mind transferring them each time you run out.
We personally like decanting our spices and having the uniform look, but have opted not to decant for many of our clients who have greater varieties. The call is totally up to you, but the functionality of organizing a spice drawer is achieved either way.

The Expand-a-Drawer Spice Organizer seen above is a great option as it can be adjusted to fit in most drawers. You simply slide it in or out to fit your space. In addition to the expandable spice drawer organizer, we have also used this spice liner roll also sold at The Container Store to organize spice drawers. I’ve linked both options at the bottom of this blog post.
And here’s our final updated spice drawer. We love being able to see all of our spices at a glance, and this drawer is right next to the stove which makes seasoning as we cook a breeze.

Another choice I made when organizing this spice drawer was to label the tops of the spices instead of the front since my collection of spices isn’t as massive as some of our clients. Additionally I can recognize most of them without reading the label. I’m loving the minimal look of not having the fronts labeled as a nice change. I used the white chalkboard labels found at The Container Store and cut them down to fit on the lid.

We were also sent the ProKeeper Baker’s Storage Set of 10 to beautifully organize our baking goods. I also like using my large acrylic tray to place all the ingredients for any recipe I am going to use.
