How to Maximize Door Space Using the Elfa Door Rack

It’s no secret we love maximizing space when we are organizing here at Pinch of Help. And since not everyone has pantries and closets the size of small apartments (and even if you do!) utilizing door space can often save the day. The Container Store’s Elfa door rack has countless uses and is our go-to when we need a little extra space. We have used them in countless clients’ homes so I decided to create a round up of many of the ways we’ve organized using door racks with links to the products used for each setup. And the best part, absolutely NO holes or drilling are required to set up your door rack. They simply attach with a top and bottom hook that you tighten with the included wrench. So easy!

NEED MORE SPACE IN YOUR PANTRY? THIS ONE’S FOR YOU.

We organized this door rack with our client’s spices on her pantry. The stove is right on the other side of the door, making this easily accessible during cooking. We also decanted her bulk spices using these airtight containers which fit perfectly.

SCHOOL STATION FOR THE KIDS

Whether your kids go to school in person, or do so virtually, having a central station to keep school supplies and other items they may reach for for school can help keep *some* of the stress at bay.

KEEP YOUR 2020 COVID SUPPLIES IN REACH

It’s safe to say that we’ve all had to make room for greater quantities of items in our homes since Covid struck us earlier this year. From disinfectants, to masks, to gloves, to more toilet paper than we ever thought we’d need, many of our clients have enlisted our services to create more organizational systems to keep it from taking over the house.

THE CUTEST HAIR ACCESSORIES ORGANIZATION YOU’LL EVER SEE

This is my favorite door rack we’ve organized. It’s just so stinking cute, and equally functional which is a win in our book! Our client’s daughter had an enviable amount of hair accessories and headbands so we organized this easy-to-grab station in her bathroom to make getting ready each morning a breeze.

WE LIKED IT SO MUCH WE DID IT TWICE!

We loved the previous setup so much that when we had another client with a daughter with a ton of hair accessories we knew just what we wanted to do.

PANTRY DOOR SNACK STATION

We organized this pantry door by placing all of the snacks on the door rack so that the kids wouldn’t have to rummage through the pantry looking for what they wanted. This setup allows for more space in the pantry for everything else and helps you easily see when you’re getting low on snacks.

LOTS OF HAIR PRODUCTS? ORGANIZE THEM ON THE DOOR.

Our client receives a lot of products to try. Keeping them all contained and organized was our top goal and the door rack perfectly fit the bill.

VITAMIN AND MEDICINE STORAGE

BOOK STORAGE

Our client’s son had lots of books, so we organized them using a door rack on each door making sure to place the baskets within his reach. As he grows, they can add more baskets or other attachments to the upper portion.

A few things to note

While we encourage you to buy lots of different components (baskets, boards, hooks, etc) to play around with as you organize your door, you must to know your door height to make sure you get the proper standard (the pole) for your door. They come in various heights and only 1 will fit your door. The door racks currently come in 2 color options. White and Platinum. You can also purchase the baskets in either mesh or wire depending on what you’re organizing and how much visibility you desire. Lastly, the racks can also be drilled into the wall if you’d prefer.

Here it is in white mesh (what we commonly use):

And here is the platinum wire:
