Good Day Atlanta: Quick and Easy Home Organization Tips From Brittani
We were recently interviewed on Fox 5/Good Day Atlanta and were able to share some of our favorite tips and tricks to help you organize your home. With all of the extra time we’re spending at home, it can be tempting to want to start decluttering and organizing your space. But it can be overwhelming to know what to tackle first. One of the first things that we like to tell people when they want to start organizing their space is to start small. It might seem like a good idea to dive right into your whole kitchen, but instead, try starting with that pesky kitchen junk drawer. Home organization is a big task, and we’re here to help, but starting small is a great way for you to get started and you’d be surprised at how accomplished you’ll feel after!
It’s also important that you consider every item in the space that you’re organizing. So many times, people just want to go out and purchase containers or items that they think they need without truly seeing what they have first. We recommend that you consider every item, not only will this save you from purchasing duplicate items, but it will allow you to get a better understanding of how you want to organize your things. When looking at an item and figuring out whether or not you should keep it, there are three things that we like to consider. These three things are:
- I need it
- I want it
- I love it
If you’re looking at an item and unable to categorize it into a need, want, or love, then it’s probably a good indicator that you should part ways with it. Once you’ve decided what you’re going to keep you can start organizing from there.
Keep similar items together. It may seem convenient to have the same item placed in various spots around the home but this may cause you and your family to lose that organization that you worked so hard to achieve. Keeping all similar items together in the same spot allows you and the rest of your family to know its designated spot, which makes it easier to return to if you know exactly where to put it.
Make sure that you also take measurements of your space before you start buying organizational items like baskets, containers, and other things. This will help save you the time and hassle of finding a container and then having to return it because it doesn’t fit. Taking measurements will also help give you a better idea of what you’re going to need. Who knows, you may be able to fit in two baskets where you thought you could only have one!
Lastly, label everything! One of our most frequently asked questions is “How do I keep my space organized after I’ve organized it?”. We understand that sometimes husbands and kids can come in and unintentionally mess things up, but with labels they will know exactly where everything goes! And with a little practice, they’ll start understanding where to put things!
